Now that the economies are going through a tough time and people are cutting down on travel and tourism, the influx of ever-increasing number of tourists is ushering renewed aspirations in the Tourism Industry of Costa Rica. This is definitely contributing substantially to the national economy.
A 13% growth in tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2008 as compared to the entire 2007 was recently revealed by a study conducted by the Guanacaste Chamber of Tourism. Generally tourist numbers goes up in this quarter and falls in the following months due to the rainy season. Guanacaste has become the country's main tourist attraction province.
Costa Rica became a tourist haven mainly Americans and Canadians. An increase in American tourists visiting Costa Rica is thought to be due to the economic recession in the U.S.A. where average tourists look for alternative destinations than Europe.
Amongst surveyed tourists by the Costa Rican ministry, that visited Guanacaste, 96% said that they would recommend Costa Rica to their friends and families, a finding that will keep drawing tourists in the future. The Guanacaste Chamber of Tourism study mentioned before found that about 48% of the tourists had already been to Costa Rica, increasing by 12% from the 2007 high season and 40% during the one in 2006.
